Welcome to My Blog

Updated: Jan 21, 2021

Welcome, to the official blog of Dr. Miriam Wheeler! I'm so glad you're here.

Welcome to Dr. Miriam Wheeler's Blog

It's taken me awhile to muster the courage to officially start writing blog posts. The idea that anyone would be interested in my thoughts, musings, and love for naturopathy, homeopathy, and plant-based cooking is still a little strange to me. And it's also somewhat intimidating to share my opinions publicly and online, but we'll come back to this important point more in the future (stay tuned for my upcoming 2-part post on why I'm re-joining social media*).

If you know me, or read my bio, you know that being a doctor was never a goal or aspiration of mine growing up. And even though I'm one of the most highly trained licensed naturopathic physicians in the country, having completed 3 years of residency (which is not typical for NDs), most days I still feel like "just Miriam" (or Mimi, Meemer, Mira, or Mir depending on which friend or family member is reading this). I don't like to take myself too seriously. The letters after my name and the degrees hanging in my office might mean 99 things (you know, like: knowledge in and passion for natural medicine, plenty of student loan debt, and years of accumulated sleep debt), but a sense that I'm superior to anybody isn't 1 of them.

My mentor did a wonderful job of instilling in me as a student and resident, that as a naturopathic physician, I might be the expert in medicine and natural treatment options, but patients remain the experts in their lives, their symptoms, and their experiences. This balance and mutual respect is so powerful for improved patient care and outcomes. And this truth guides my daily interactions with patients, and I hope it carries over through this blog as well.

So here we are, together. And I'm finally (and appropriately) excited about this opportunity to engage with you all through this new medium. The purpose of this blog is to educate and empower my patients, and any other fans of natural medicine who might stumble across it. So let's dive in and discuss relevant medical topics that are most important for your health and wellbeing, and hopefully have some fun together along the way!
